What is Camp Composition?
"I don't know what to write for my story. Where do I even begin?"
"How can I write an essay in 25 minutes? How do I begin?"
Has your child ever said something like this? Have you ever watched them
sit and stare at a blank piece of paper or computer monitor? Writing can be
a complicated skill to learn. But it isn't impossible!
After seven year's of using IEW's syllabus, The Institute of Excellence in
Writing, I have witnessed that writing can be taught in incremental parts
where students are able to experience success, which begins to build
confidence in their writing abilities. This confidence, combined with
learning how to organize and express their thoughts, allows the students
the freedom to develop their own sense of writing style.
I teach a writing process that encourages the students to think. These
classes use logic and organization as building blocks for the expression
of information and ideas. With practice, modeling, repetition and
encouragement, most students will begin to produce well-written, logical
papers.

It has been my pleasure to instruct students to improve their writing skills
in one on one settings, small homeschool co-op settings and as a 7th
grade English teacher at Grace Brethren Junior High School. It is truly a
blessing to watch a student grasp the information and build the skill set of
writing that he or she will use for the rest of their lives.
